The Number 6593 105 Ton Diesel Electric Switcher was built in August of 1957 by Montreal Locomotive Works. It is classified as a DS-6h locomotive; referring to its use as a diesel switcher and was rated at 660 horsepower.
Canadian Pacific Railway ordered No. 6593 along with other locomotives as the railway started to change over from steam to diesel. No. 6593 worked in the rail yards for Canadian Pacific Railway for 29 years. The locomotive was retired in 1986 and was the last locomotive in CP’s fleet to have an ALCO 539 prime mover.
After its retirement from Canadian Pacific Railway, the locomotive was purchased by the National Research Council in Ottawa. It remained there until 2012 when the locomotive was purchased by SOLRS for Waterloo Central Railway.
