Fire Door Donation
Help restore No. 9 by donating funds to overhaul and powder coat the fire door.
The fire door is located on the back of the firebox and provides access for the fireman to build and maintain the fire. This is a “butterfly”-type door that can be open and shut quickly with a foot pedal so the coal can be shoveled in quickly without too much heat escaping. The fireman works hard to build the fire and keep the heat up, so having a fully functional fire door is vital to the fireman’s efforts. The fire door is used hundreds of times each time No. 9 is operated so it will see a lot of wear and tear. Powder coating the door will help to further preserve this piece of heritage equipment against damage.
