Centennial Birthday Train in Celebration

Waterloo Central Railway is pleased to offer a Centennial Birthday Train in celebration of our 1923-built steam locomotive, Number 9. Erected in February 1923 at the Montreal Locomotive Works, Number 9 has been in the employ of Essex Terminal Railway, St. Thomas Central Railway and now Waterloo Central Railway.

To mark this historic event, No. 9 has been repainted back to her 1923 inspired livery, complete with a specially designed centennial logo. In addition, Waterloo Central Railway has partnered with local craft brewer, Block Three Brewing Company, in designing our very own No. 9 Centennial India “Rail” Ale.

Come join us for a one hour heritage train ride, while enjoying a can of our very own rail ale. The train will be stopping at our St. Jacobs Restoration & Maintenance Facility, where passengers will be given a tour of our shop to visit the birthday girl herself, a chance to blow the whistle, ring the bell and get the first photographs of No. 9 in her new paint scheme. In addition, passengers will be treated to a piece of birthday cake and a hot cup of coffee before entraining for the return trip back to the Farmers Market station.

Please note that this train will be diesel powered. Number 9 will be on full display inside our shop.
