Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with a special heritage train ride behind Steam Locomotive No. 9 (MLW 0-6-0)!
Join us on Saturday, October 10 for a Heritage Hopper experience with a little extra steam. No. 9 will be powering our Heritage Hopper, giving passengers the opportunity to experience our regular hop-on, hop-off service behind our 1923 steam locomotive!
Trains depart at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
Sit back and enjoy the beautiful fall scenery as you travel through Waterloo Region, the Village of St. Jacobs, Elmira and the surrounding countryside and farming landscape.
October 10 is also our Oktoberfest Heritage Hopper! Hop on and off throughout the day to enjoy Oktoberfest festivities, local shops, great food, and beautiful fall scenery. Every guest will receive a complimentary Oktoberfest pretzel. Enjoy a special, limited edition Oktoberfest beer along with other beverages available for purchase onboard. Prost!
Just like our regular Heritage Hopper service, your day pass gives you the flexibility to hop on and off at our stations throughout the day. Explore the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, spend some time in the Village of St. Jacobs, visit Elmira, or simply enjoy the journey behind No. 9.
Use the daily train schedule to plan your own Thanksgiving adventure, getting off to explore and catching a later train when you’re ready to continue your journey.

Is there parking available?
Parking is only available at our Farmers Market station.
What seating options are available?
COACH CAR Our standard coaches offer traditional rail seating in groups of four and two as depicted in the photo shown here offering a wide-open, panoramic view of the countryside and Mennonite farms adjacent to our rail line. LOUNGE CAR Features soft upholstered chairs and tables of 4, in spacious surroundings for a full view of the countryside.
There are no refunds unless the WCR cancels a train. Missed trains or bad weather will not be refunded.
